Phew…

What a crazy weekend! Okay not so good on the Flea Market, I think all of East Cobb and beyond must have been on K9 Advantix - cause there was nary a “flea” anywhere…in fact Sunday there was none. I guess the cold weather kept them all off…so, the good news is several organizations will reap the rewards of leftovers!

Then there was my willing offer to babysit a less than happy adopted “pup”. She snarled at me the entire way home and after standing outside my car in the freezing cold for over 30 minutes trying to coax her into allowing me to take her leash and thus remove her from the vehicle — I took charge. The Caesar came out in me as I politely, yet passionately, told her to sit, stop that biting and let’s go! Guess what? It worked. I was so proud of myself as we walked up the stairs, sauntered past my 2 perplexed dogs and 2 concerned cats and settled into the guest room. Of course gnashing teeth the entire way, but that’s alright, she has settled in and what’s an occasional snarl between friends?!   It may be a long week….

And over the past few days we agreed to help out some families in need. We have taken 3 wayward souls into the organization – each cuter than the next…check out

Henry; Reeses; and Charlie -

Shots of Napa and her new brood!

AND While all of this baby birthing was going on — little Dora and Diego napped.

First off we are proud parents of 8 beautiful little puppies! Napa, a gorgeous little black and white-soft haired, angelic pup went into labor last night and by 11:00pm she had had 10 babies (2 unfortunately were stillborn). As I drifted off into lala land – Napa was resting and nurturing her new little ones. Thanks Barb, Kelley, Riane and Stephanie for providing Napa with a lot of loving hands and tons of support. Photos and updates will be coming.

We have several new pups on our growing adoptions list — Roscoe a fabulous GREAT dane;  Remy a sweet little pittie found stray and starving; and my little foster Soho came back (she’s just as adorable as she was the first go around). Please take a peek – we may be prejudiced, but we think all of our pups are wonderful!

How’d you like to find Roscoe under your Christmas tree!

Next, let’s not forget that we are holding our 2nd ‘Pound Treasures’ Flea Market this weekend. We will be at Paper Mill Village Friday, Saturday and Sunday. Drop by – we know you’ll find something to take home. We are accepting all credible offers!

Last, but not least, as promised Leesia Teh came out to Petsmart and took photos of our babies, they are wonderful. You can find them all here….    Also, she gave a shout out to Mutt Madd-ness on her blog…BIG thanks!

We saw this coming. Got a call earlier in the week from Dekalb – so, needless to say … we’ve just accepted the sweetest little pregnant puppy into the rescue “Napa”. Guess the name came because we’re all going to be closely connected to that destination for the next 3-4 months – the wine thing. She is resting comfortable away from the chaos of the shelter. And we’ll be birthin’ babies real soon. Stay tuned – if they are as cute and sweet as mom they’ll be adopted as soon as they hit the turf!

We have one of our sweet babies coming back – the family decided she just wasn’t right for them. She sure was right for me! I fostered this little minipin - chihuahua mix and she did everything with my family of animals. Sweet, lovable and extremely huggable – “Soho” is back on this side of town. You can see her on Petfinder.

Well, we wish all of our animal lovers a wonderful Thanksgiving. I can tell you, our rescue has a lot to be thankful for, we see it everyday in all those sloppy kisses.

Update: Georgia state Rep. Tom Knox has introduced an amended version of Grace’s Law, H.B. 788, which will be considered by the House Committee on Science and Technology during the 2010 session. During the 2009 session, similar versions were tabled after House and Senate committee hearings.

Under this version carbon monoxide gas chambers along with decompression chambers and use of exhaust from gasoline engines would not be allowed as means to kill shelter animals. The bill is named Grace’s Law for a dog that survived a ghastly CO gassing in Liberty County.

YOU CAN HELP END THE KILLING AND THE SUFFERING.

Busy as promised…

but what a great day! We had potential adopters promptly waiting for us when we got to Petsmart at 10:00am yesterday. 4 of our candy bars went to wonderful families and my little foster Bert got adopted…ahhh. One of Atlanta’s top dog photographers, Leesia Teh and her husband (kindly assisting) took time out of their busy day to come and take photos of all of our beautiful pups awaiting adoption. The “professional” photos will be posted soon.  Her pro-bono work is truly appreciated!

BUT as always you can still see our great looking guys and gals, including a hand or two, on our adoption page.  Don’t overlook some of our non-bitty-pups and older pups — great dogs like Maggie, Sage, Ivan, Allie and Juliette. They may not be tiny cute, but each has wonderful qualities that they would bring to a family. Share their story with family, co-workers and friends. Let’s all work in finding them their forever home.

Cutie, Ernie -- his brother Bert was adopted - now he needs a place to chill!

We will have about 12 babies up at Petsmart and some cute older pups…you may want to come by and take a peek. Each one is cuter than the next. Also – remember the orphans I mentioned, the ones tha lost their mom while in the shelter? Well, we got the cutest photo of Dora the Explorer right after waking up and I could not wait to share. She reminds me of somebody…hmmmmm! Dora and Diego are now 4 weeks and doing great.

Uhnhn...yawn....

The Georgia Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals may have to close its adoption center by the end of the year, officials told the AJC on Thursday.

The animal shelter, based in Suwanee, cites the struggling economy for a dramatic drop in donations and corporate sponsorship. One of its largest sponsors pulled out funding that largely supported the organization, said Jane Stewart, operations manager. The rescue group has also taken on more animals in the past several months because of flooding and people losing their homes, as well as others who no longer are able to afford animal care.

“We can’t keep up,” said Joan Sammond, executive director of GSPCA. “We do a lot to help out in the state, including helping with cruelty issues and animal rescue. But the bottom line is, if we don’t have funds to operate, we can’t keep going.”

The GSPCA, which does not receive state funding, needs $25,000 to $30,000 a month to run, Sammond said. As of late November, the nonprofit only has enough money to last through the end of the year. “We haven’t thrown in the towel,” Stewart said. “We’ll take whatever we can get.”

Stewart said while the nonprofit aims to save as many animals as possible from euthanasia at overcrowded animal shelters, she worries most about the animals currently in the GSPCA’s care if it no longer can operate from its adoption center in Suwanee. “We can’t bear the thought of not being able to take care of them,” she said.

Sammond said if the nonprofit can no longer afford its leased space, it will likely turn to foster-based work. That, however, would greatly diminish the ability to solicit volunteers who currently work at the adoption center and also hinder the group’s efforts to place animals in new homes. Since opening the center in July 2007, the GSPCA has placed more than 2,400 pets with families, she said. “The adoption center has been the heart of the organization. It gives people a way to volunteer, to have a place to go,” she said. “If we’re not here, we can’t help as many people and animals.”

The public can help by donating money or supplies, including food (the shelter uses Purina One), litter (clay-based is preferred), toys, towels and cleaning products. Learn more by visiting www.georgiaspca.org

what were we thinking?! Have you seen our pet list recently??? Of course we felt compelled to rescue a bunch of babies recently, but who knew we would be getting one of our wonderful pups back! Maggie ended up being just too big for an elder couple to manage. Now at 100#’s a and a big lap dog she’s just that much more to love. We thought Allie and Juliette had homes – that didn’t work out. Families found 3 strays which we have taken. So, I really must say, we are just a little busy. Overwhelmed? Maybe.

We will be a Petsmart Saturday with 75 dogs - just kidding (about an even dozen). They are all great pups – come by and visit, come by and sign up to foster, or send your friends, family and co-workers over to adopt! It’s almost thanksgiving and we have a lot to be thankful for — share the love.

Missed a wonderful opportunity to have my foster “sweet Sage” photographed by Leesia Teh – a fabulous local photographer. I got too busy to check my personal email and she had an opening this morning. That bummed me out. Check out her site to view some of  her amazing pet photos.

OK I lied…

On Thursday I told you we were bringing five orphans into the fold…well, we ended up with a total of  11. You might ask, “How did that Happen?” Well, the 3 that lost their mother (1 of those also lost its battle to survive) were picked up today (Sunday) and on Friday the 13th when we were picking up the other 2 orphans “Bert & Ernie” we could not ignore the candy bars directly above them (it was around 1pm and we were starving), nor could we pass up Allie our sweetest little dalamation/staffordshire who had been locked up for a month with an embedded collar and as we happily skipped to the front door to leave — Frida was dumped! There was no way we could leave that little, tiny girl in a very scary place. So that’s how.  Overwhelming? Of course, satisfying – doubly. So as I said in MANY earlier blogs and emails…we need fosters! Please consider opening up a small section of you home for a puppy or fabulous dog…it really is so rewarding. Take a minute to peek in on all of our latest rescues…we’ve given you a taste below. You’ll agree they were all worth saving!
